Why Carpet Remnants?
When you are looking to update the carpet in a room it may be a wise idea to consider installing carpet remnants instead of buying a new roll of carpet, especially if the room is small. Unfortunately most people do not consider carpet remnants before buying new carpet or even before buying a new area rug or runner for the home because they are either unaware of how to purchase it, do not know it is available or are not sure what it is. This step could have saved them a great deal of money. Perhaps you have never heard of the term before. Well carpet remnants are what’s left over from a carpet roll after installation. There is enough carpet to be used for smaller jobs, but not enough left over to complete another home in its entirety. Therefore retailers sell those left over pieces at a reduced price. This way the leftovers do not go to waste and you benefit from it financially.
So when should you consider using carpet remnants? It depends on the size of your project. For most small jobs such as a small room or replacing a small section of carpet, carpet remnants are ideal. The carpet is brand new so you are not losing out on quality, you are simply getting a better deal because you do not have to pay for a brand new roll of carpet which you do not need. Another great way to use carpet remnants is for area rugs for around the home. You can select the desired carpet and have it bound around the edges for a new and less expensive area rug. They also make great runners for the hallway, or smaller pieces can be used around the home in high traffic areas as little mats to protect your existing carpet. If you have had new carpet installed you may also want to consider keeping some of the leftovers just in case you ever need to patch a small area due to damage.
Where to find Carpet Remnants?
While you may not hear about carpet remnants often, you can buy them from just about any flooring or carpet retailer. They often have a section designated to this particular product and are usually available right away to purchase and the installation process is no different than traditional carpet installs. Choosing this particular route is perfect for anyone looking to carpet a room on a budget. Before purchasing the carpet, make sure to shop around online to get some ideas on price. Be sure to have the exact dimensions of the area you would like to carpet before getting price quotes and make sure to get a piece a little bit bigger for safe measure.
My own Experience with Carpet Remnants
Personally, I went to my local carpet retailer and asked to see their warehouse area. The manager gladly escorted me into the back and showed me the available carpet remnants that I could choose from. I ended up saving about $500 vs. having brand new carpeting installed and the carpet remnant ended up being a better quality than I would have originally spent money on. With a little initiative on our parts, using carpet remnants instead of regular carpeting is a great money saving tip that any of us can do. Make sure to try it out next time you are in the market for replacing your original carpet with these carpet remnants
